Why the jump into CrossFit?
I was looking for something really complete like gymnastics but with a strength bias, and I like the idea of getting stronger but in a functional way.
Why did you choose Fortius?
When I moved to San Diego, I visited over 10 different CrossFit gyms. I found Fortius on the CrossFit web page and tried it for two days, I immediately recognized the experience of the coaches and the supportive environment (like Sarah and Wilmar)
Biggest Misconception about CrossFit?
That you can quickly pick up Olympic lifting. You need to be patient to dominate the weightlifting movements over time.
Favorite and Least Favorite CrossFit movements?
Favorite movements: Handstand Pushups and Hand Release Pushups. Least Favorite: Goblet Squats
Advice for someone looking to start CrossFit?
Find a place with nice People, like Fortius. It makes a huge difference training with friends and supportive people. Also find one with good coaches, like Fortius. Those two things are much more important than fancy facilities and equipment.
What’s next? What are your goals for the future?
Get a 90kg snatch and 120Kg clean and jerk by January 2014. Compete in Rumble to Paradise and try to qualify for the OC Throwdown and CrossFit Regionals in 2015.
