When did you start at Fortius?
Sports / Fitness Background?
I never played anything in high school. I did some wrestling in my senior year, but all I got was gross ringworm. I did BJJ a few months in mid 2000’s, but ultimately I was just a gym rat that lacked direction. I have a ton of journals filled front to back that I have saved up since 2003.
Why the jump into CrossFit?
I got bored of the gym grind and wanted to challenge myself.
Why did you choose Fortius?
At the time, I was laid off from my job. Fortius was much closer from where I live compared to my old box at CFMG. I needed to save up some money. I also know a lot of people that go to Fortius so the transition helped.
What kind of progress have you made over the past year?
Mainly a lot of improvement on technique.
175 lb => 209 lb snatch
225 lb => 265 lb clean & jerk
245 lb => 285 lb clean
245 lb => 319 lb front squat
Biggest Misconception about CrossFit?
You have to throw heavy weights around and risk hurting yourself. This is not the case. With good coaching, everything is scalable.
Favorite and Least Favorite Crossfit Movements?
Favorite is anything Olympic weightlifting related. Least favorite are farmer walks.
Advice for someone looking to start CrossFit?
Don’t ever be ashamed to scale a workout. We’re all there to have fun, sweat, and encourage each other to do our best. Besides, once the workout begins, everyone will be too focused doing their own thing!
What’s next? What are your goals for the future?
Get to 80kg bodyweight. I’d like to do another Olympic weightlifting competition then.
