When did you start at Fortius?
Sports / Fitness background?
Soccer and Basketball competitively in High School. Recreational Sports – dodgeball, flag football, volleyball.
Why the jump into CrossFit?
Ricktastic dragged me after doing all of the research. Literally dragged me off the couch shoved me in his car and forced me to workout out.
Why did you choose Fortius?
What kind of progress have you made over the past year?
I went from thinking I was in decent shape, but couldn’t do a pull-up or pistol or double under, to being able to do most of the CrossFit movements with at least adequate form. I am now in the best shape of my life! I also dropped over 2 minutes off my mile time and continue to increase the weight of all my weightlifting exercises. I also competed in my first CrossFit competition a few months ago!
Biggest misconception about CrossFit?
CrossFit will make women look less feminine.
Favorite and Least Favorite CrossFit movements?
Favorite – wall balls and pistols. Least – after the past month pull ups but double unders are a close second.
Advice for someone looking to start CrossFit?
HAVE FUN! The workouts will be hard and the movements will probably feel impossible for a long time but be confident in your progress no matter how slow you think it might be happening. Take the ‘bad’ days in stride . Everyone will have workouts that don’t go well no matter how long they have been training – tomorrow is another day. Always be supportive and encouraging positivity is contagious!
What’s next? What are your goals for the future?
Finally feeling more confident in the lifts so I’d like to work towards some lifting goals – deadlift 250#, clean bodyweight (150#ish), snatch 100#, front squat 175#. As for CrossFit movements: handstand push-ups and improving all other movements so I’m ready when it comes time to COMPETE AGAIN!
