Sports / Fitness background?
Nope. I was a band nerd in high school and focused on academics in college. I didn’t start working out seriously until starting CrossFit about 5 years ago and it’s drastically improved the overall quality of my life.
Why did you choose Fortius?
First and foremost, the people/community. Everyone is so friendly and supportive. The coaches genuinely care about the members and it’s obvious that they love to watch us progress. I’ve made some quality friends at the gym. We really have a great group of people.
What kind of progress have you made over the past year?
PR city! I also added strict HSPU to my skill set. Staying committed to the programming works. Period. I’m currently in peak shape and still progressing.
What the biggest misconception about CrossFit?
Probably that It wOn’T MaKe YoU StRoNgEr. It absolutely will, but strength is only one aspect of overall fitness that CrossFit focuses on. Generally speaking it will make you more athletic, especially if you are like me and don’t have sports background.
Advice for someone looking to start CrossFit?
We all had a first day. Start from exactly where you are and be patient as you progress. Everyone is here to support you, not judge you. Most of all, have fun!
What’s next? What are your goals for the future?
My 2 main fitness goals are becoming proficient on the rings and learning how to handstand walk. Next year I’d like to enter a team competition for the first time.
