When did you start at Fortius?
Sports / Fitness background?
Started learning Krav Maga back in 2015 and that got me into martial arts. Been training Judo and Jiu jitsu as well for the past few years.
Why did you choose Fortius?
When I moved here from Boston mid-December last year I tried out a couple CrossFit gyms around. People are so welcoming here during my week of free trial and the coaches are very helpful. I knew that Fortius was the one for me.
What kind of progress have you made over the past year?
So many. I gained massive strength compared to last year. Thanks to the weightlifting program and coach Daimino’s awesome gymnastics program here at Fortius, I’m getting so much better at the Olympic Weightlifting techniques, I got my first bar muscle up and ring muscle up, countless PRs and just overall making me a better athlete.
What the biggest misconception about CrossFit?
People say doing CrossFit is just abusing your body and you get injured a lot. While it’s true that you can get injured from doing CrossFit, it’s true in any other sport. I had way more injuries the past few years doing martial arts. We just need to listen to our body and having great coaches at the gym that teach you proper techniques can help you minimize injuries.
Advice for someone looking to start CrossFit?
It’s OK to scale the workouts. We don’t have to jump in with Rx workouts. Know your abilities. The key is not to compete against other people at the gym. The key is to become a better version of you. Be consistent and you will see the results.
What’s next? What are your goals for the future?
Would love to get better at all the gymnastics movements and learn how to handstand walk. I wouldn’t mind hitting a few PRs along the way either!
