When did you start at Fortius?
December of 2018
Sports / Fitness background?
I grew up playing basketball and football. Once I got to Jr. High, all sports activities became non-existent until I started CrossFit 4 years ago.
Why did you choose Fortius?
I had recently moved to San Diego from Utah and did some research of all the gyms in the area. After reading through some reviews, I decided to use the one week trial to make sure the gym was the right fit for me. It’s was undeniable on the first day that the programming and knowledge of the coaches was top notch. I knew that day Fortius was the gym for me.
What kind of progress have you made over the past year?
My progress over the past year has been in body composition and strength. I’ve had a weight loss goal that I’ve been trying to reach for the past few years. Even though I weigh the same today as I did last year, there is definitely more definition in my shoulders and legs. I’ve also been hitting PR’s on all my lifts with each programming cycle that ends.
What the biggest misconception about CrossFit?
I’d say the biggest misconception is that you have to be at a certain fitness level/weight to start. The workouts are all scalable for anyone to do no matter your fitness level or weight.
Advice for someone looking to start CrossFit?
Don’t be intimated and just start! It will be uncomfortable, but over time you’ll get much more used to being uncomfortable.
What’s next? What are your goals for the future?
Continue my weight loss so that one day I can perform all workouts at Rx. Also, since the gym has started Olympic Weightlifting classes again, I’d like to get more proficient at those movements as well.
